Reasi: Director of Horticulture Educates Farmers on Benefits of PMFME Program – India Education | Latest Education News | Global education news


REASI: Director of Horticulture Jammu Ram Savak attended a mega awareness-raising camp here in Panchayat Agar Jitto on Sunday and sensitized local farmers to various horticultural intervention programs to increase production and farmers’ incomes.

The director of the horticulture department interacted with members of the Federation at the Prerna cluster level of JKRLM, an amalgamation of various self-help groups in Reasi district. The director asked the SHGs to partner with the horticulture department and assured them that the department would help them formalize the food micro-processing units under the PMFME program, a historic initiative of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to the added value of fruit products which not only generate employment opportunities but also improve their income.

Speaking to a large number of farmers including women, Ram Savak asked them to adopt crop diversification in their fields to earn all year round. He informed them of the incentives available under various programs sponsored by the center and the state of the department and urged them to come forward and enjoy the benefits of different components, namely: borehole, geo-reservoirs, drip irrigation, personalized rental centers, strawberry plantation, Aloevera etc. for raising their socio-economic status. He also focused on planting high density plants and exotic fruit crops like dragon fruit in their fields in order to get more income from the same area, thus helping to double the income of farmers.

As a member of Sawash Bharat Abhiyan, Safai Abhiyan was also started by the director of Panchayat Ghar Agar Jitto, accompanied by officers / officials and locals in the area.

Later, the director of horticulture launched a planting campaign by planting a young citrus tree in Agar Jitto in the presence of PRI members and department officials.

In addition, the Director inspected the Dagozi Bagh and Lattori fruit nurseries in the department. He instructed the head of horticulture, Reasi, to complete the ongoing civil engineering works in the nurseries and improve the production of fruit plants in order to make the department self-sufficient and meet the demand for fruit plants from the farmers.

He was accompanied by the head of horticulture Reasi Brij Vallabh Gupta, DLSMS Reasi Sh. Sandeep Sharma, HDO and the heads of the department.
