Some of this pre-construction work will involve the use of helicopters to transport workers and equipment to hard-to-reach areas for drilling and drilling.

Actual construction is due to begin later this year.

The project will widen 15 miles (24 kilometers) of I-17 to add more lanes between Anthem Way and Black Canyon City and build 8 miles (13 kilometers) of new reversible lanes between Black Canyon City and the rest area of Sunset Point.

“In the meantime, drivers should be aware of pre-construction work and restrictions as crews prepare for major construction work,” ADOT said in a statement. “As equipment and workers will be present along the highway, ADOT urges motorists to drive safely within the established work zone, which means avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit and move if necessary.”
