ODOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report: Week of June 6-10

BEND, Oregon (KTVZ) – Here is the weekly construction report for the ODOT 4 region for the week of June 6-10.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system. ODOT invests in Oregon’s future through road improvement projects. The following projects are located in ODOT Region 4 encompassing central Oregon from the Dalles to Klamath Falls on the east side of the Cascades.

All work is weather dependent and times are subject to change.

FALLS COUNTY

US 97: S Century Drive to USFS border (milepost (MP) 153.11 – MP 156.26)

ODOT extends the wooded cross-section divided by the median of US97 three miles south of the South Century interchange just past Vandevert Road (MP153.12 to MP 156.05). The new freeway will connect with approximately 15 miles of recently constructed widening, interchange and median barrier improvements on US97 to the north, making this stretch of freeway safer for all users.

This week, the contractor will be performing shoulder closures to remove portions of the old highway. No traffic delays are to be expected.

Expected completion: August 1, 2022.

US 97: Road Weather Management Project (MP 143.68 – MP 164.17)

This project involves the installation of a Road and Weather Information System (RWIS), speed sensors, travel time readers and changeable road signs at seven locations between the towns of Bend and La Pine in order to improve safety along the US97 corridor.

This week, the contractor will be performing shoulder closures to complete the installation of components for the project.

US 20: Mervin Sampels – Greenwood (3rd Street Bend, MP 18.99 – MP 20.99)

This project will improve mobility, access and safety for motorists, transit users, pedestrians and cyclists, while modernizing aging infrastructure.

The ODOT contractor will construct the following: new roadway within the project boundaries, updated sidewalks, bike lanes and ADA ramps. The project will also update signals, storm water and drainage features, lighting fixtures and ITS equipment. It will also update bus stop locations, install new signs, update crosswalks, and install fast-blink beacon crossings.

This week the contractor will be performing single lane closures in the NB and SB lanes on 3rd Street from Revere to Greenwood to facilitate construction activities, motorists can expect delays. Additionally, a utility contractor will be closing the New Brunswick Slow Lane on 3rd Street from Butler Market to Mervin Sampels to relocate a utility line, this closure will be in place until July 1.

Expected completion: November 1, 2023.

US 97 Redmond-Bend, Dalles California Freeway (MP 124.4 – MP 133.51)

This project deals with safety on a 9 mile corridor on US97 between the cities of Redmond and Bend. The design phase was completed in 2019 and construction is currently underway.

The ODOT contractor will construct the following as part of the project: deceleration lanes at Quarry Avenue and 61st Street from southbound US97, an acceleration lane from 61st Street to Southbound US97 to provide greater merge distance, installation of a median barrier south of the Tumalo Road interchange and a U-turn from southbound US97 to the north, install markers reflective pavement added for better lane separation and removed rock outcrops near the edge of the pavement for better visibility.

This week, the contractor will be closing the NB and SB expressway to install the median barrier Monday through Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

US 20: Ward/Hamby Rd. Project Intersection (MP 3.26 – MP 3.86)

This project will design and build a roundabout to improve safety at the intersection of US20 and Ward/Hamby.

This week the contractor will complete the installation of treads and rumble strips. The contractor may temporarily close the Hamby or Ward Rd legs of the roundabout to facilitate the installation process. Closures will be short-lived and legs will reopen immediately once installation is complete the same day. Please use an alternate route during this closure, a detour route will be posted.

HARNEY/LAKE COUNTIES

US 395: Big Stick – Alkali Lake, Lakeview, Lakeview-Burns Road (MP 15.43 – MP 46.93).

This project will replace 30 miles of US395 between Big Stick Creek and Alkali Lake in Harney and Lake counties.

This week, there will be aggregate crushing at the quarry, no work or delays expected on the roadway.

HOOD RIVER COUNTY

I-84: Forest Lane on I-84

​​​For this project at Cascade Locks, ODOT is raising the Forest Lane Bridge above I-84 to accommodate tall and/or overhead trucks.​

The full closure of the bridge over NW Forest Lane continues until July 26. Frontage Road will have daytime lane closures with signage. Daytime shoulder closures on I-84 eastbound are possible for removal work. The contractor will continue to construct the embankment and install rebar and formwork for the ends of the bridge.

Completion scheduled for July 29, 2022.

JEFFERSON COUNTY and CTWS RESERVATION

US 26: Clear Lake Road – NW Dogwood Lane MP 66 – 113

This project will repair and replace culverts along US26 in Jefferson County, and also replace the Clear Creek Bridge.

This week at MP 69, crews continue to construct a temporary detour off the carriageway, with possible single lane closures up to 20 minutes late with flagger control. Watch for trucks entering and leaving the work area. Narrowed track widths and a 40mph speed reduction are in place.

Completion scheduled for December 2022.

KLAMATH COUNTY

OR140 Brett Way Extension (South Klamath Falls Highway, MP 3.74 – 4.75)

This project will construct safety improvements at the intersection of OR140 and Homedale Road. When Brett Way is extended and Summers Lane is closed, the OR140 and Homedale Road intersection will see an increase in traffic volume. A roundabout will be installed at the intersection of OR140 and Homedale Road to facilitate this increase in traffic through a safe and controlled intersection.

Earthworks and drainage work is underway on Brett Way and Wings Way, motorists can expect minor delays.

Expected end: November 29, 2022.

US 97: OR 58 – California Border Project (The Dalles – California Highway, MP 252.44 – MP 278.81)

This project will upgrade, rehabilitate and replace bridges for seismic resilience.

The project includes bridge work on the Nevada Street Bridge on US97 at MP 273.62, the USBR Bridge at MP 273.71, and the Green Spring Bridge at MP 277.12.

Nevada Street @ Oregon Avenue: Traffic control by lane change installed, work on the bridge will be done behind the concrete barrier, no delays are expected.

US97 @ Nevada St. Bridge: Lane change traffic control is installed, bridge work will be done behind the barrier, no delays expected.

OR140 @ Green Springs Bridge: Lane change traffic control installed, bridge work will be done behind the barrier, no delays expected.

US97: Slab Road Culvert Project – California MP 81.42 – 282.86

(Jefferson, Deschutes and Klamath counties)

This project involves the repair or replacement of culverts along US97 in central Oregon.

For the week of June 6:

There will be culvert and drainage work at MP 242.02, where motorists can expect 20 minute delays. Verge culvert work will be carried out at MP 267.41, MP 269.89 and MP 274.01, where motorists can expect minor delays.

WASCO COUNTY (OR)/KLICKITAT (WA)

The Dalles Bridge Project (Columbia River) (US 197: WA MP 0.57 I-84: MP 100.6-US 197: OR MP 0.61 I-84: MP 102.2.)

ODOT, in partnership with the Washington Department of Transportation, will improve safety and upgrade the Dalles Columbia River Bridge.

Full weekend closures of the Dalles Bridge have ended, with hopes of resuming closures after Labor Day in the fall. Crews will continue to close a single lane overnight (Monday through Thursday nights); expect delays of up to 20 minutes during nighttime hours while flaggers control traffic on the bridge. Crews continue to form new concrete panels at their precast site location and prepare the structure below. Work will also take place on the shoulders and staging areas at the ends of the bridge during weekdays with no delays expected, please use caution when traveling through the project.

Expected completion yet to be determined.
