READFIELD – Maranacook Community High School has announced its top 10 students for the Class of 2022.

Valedictorian Anna Erb of Readfield is the daughter of David Erb Jr., Dianna Schmidt and stepmother Kelli Corrigan. She is also the younger sister of Mary Erb and Chris Erb.
Erb is a three-season varsity athlete and captain for soccer, downhill skiing and lacrosse. She joined her fellow seniors and their team to win the first-ever women’s soccer state championship in their program.
This year, Erb was on the Maine State Alpine Ski Team and competed in the Easterns in New Hampshire. During the winters, she was also a youth ski instructor at Kents Hill Ski Club.
Erb has served as Student Body President and a member of the Student Senate for four years. She was the jazz band’s drummer for four years, a member of the National Honors Society for three years, and is a tutor at the Maranacook Writing Center.
Throughout high school, Erb found a niche to paint and sell custom sneakers for his friends, family, and other members of the community. She also enjoys other mediums in art such as fine metal work.

This fall, Erb plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to major in engineering and continue his studies in art.

Sara St. Clair of Winthrop, daughter of Chris and Pat St. Clair, is a Salutatorian. She is a member of the National Honors Society as well as Rho Kappa. She participated in the Civics Unplugged Scholarship and has been a college mentor for the past three years. St. Clair plans to attend the University of Rhode Island as a neuroscience major in the fall.

Emily Lucas of Readfield is the daughter of Michelle and Robert Lucas. She is a three-season athlete having practiced cross country, nordic and tennis throughout her high school career. She also participated in the Maranacook music program, playing for the school jazz band, singing in the district chamber choir and festival, and participating in school musicals.
In addition to sports and music, she enjoys being well-connected and involved in all school activities, such as being president of Rho Kappa and a member of the outdoors, knitting and gardening club. In the fall, Lucas plans to go to college to get a degree in civil engineering.

McKade Wing of Manchester is the son of Roy and Allison Wing. He participated in the Maranacook math team for two and a half years. The math team helped him develop his skills and guided him on the path to problem solving.
This fall, Wing plans to go to the University of Maine to pursue her goals in math and computer science.

Julia Riley of Litchfield is the daughter of John and Julie Riley, sister of Bryan Riley. She participated in tennis all through high school, playing in college her junior and senior years. In addition, she has been active in many Maranacook clubs such as the outdoor club, Rho Kappa and the knitting club.
She is the head of the Student Voice committee of the Student Senate and a member of the National Honor Society. For the past three years, she has been a helper for the unified basketball team. She plans to pursue a business degree at a college in the New England area.

Zachary Berg of Mount Vernon is the son of Rebecca Kent and Eric Berg. He is a member of the cross-country skiing, nordic skiing and athletics team. He has participated several times in the state meet for the three sports. He was also a member of the math team and is looking forward to going to college in the fall.

Thomas Clauson of Readfield is the son of Henry and Florance Clauson, and the brother of Anna Clauson. He participated in college soccer, ice hockey and downhill skiing. Playing the trumpet, Clauson has been an active member of jazz and concert bands, as well as other organizations including the National Honor Society, Student Senate, Model UN, Rho Kappa Honor Society, and GAPP, earning the Maine Seal of Biliteracy in German at the end of his freshman year.
In his senior year, he revitalized the dormant school newspaper, the “Tingley Brook News”, becoming its first editor in over a decade. On top of that, he has also volunteered at Jesse Lee Church and the Maranacook Learn to Skate program, referees soccer on weekends, and works year-round at his family’s Christmas tree farm.
Outside of school, Clauson is an avid hiker, sailor, and outdoorsman, having hiked much of the Appalachian Trail in New England. He usually spends his summers living and working at a local summer camp or as a boat boy on an island two miles off the coast of Maine. He is looking forward to going to college in the fall to study international business.

Ella Schmidt of Readfield is the daughter of Julie Schmidt and Rob Schmidt, and sister of Jarred Schmidt. She participated in varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse during her four years of high school. She was captain of each of these sports in her senior year. His football team won two regional finals and a state championship.
She was a member of the Student Council for four years and served as secretary for one year. She participated in two of the school musicals, “Footloose” and “Mamma Mia”. Schmidt plans to attend the University of Rhode Island in the fall to major in nursing.

Madeleine MacDonald of Manchester is the daughter of Peter and Christine MacDonald. She attended Kents Hill her first and second year before transferring to Maranacook. She played softball until her sophomore year, winning a MAISAD Championship with Kents Hill. While at Kents Hill, she was a tour guide during the school year and also received a coaches award in her first year of field hockey.
MacDonald participated in year-round field hockey for eight years, serving as Maranacook’s captain and a member of his senior year’s fall team. She served as an honorary page in the House of Representatives and volunteered at the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, where she reinforced her love for animals.

MacDonald plans to continue his college education at the University of Maine Orono in the pre-vet program and continue his education at veterinary school.

Claire Holman of Mount Vernon is the daughter of Rebecca Dorr and Dan Holman. She is a three-season athlete on the cross-country, nordic and track teams. She is a tutor at the writing center and an avid member of knitting and outdoor clubs. Additionally, she is an active member of the student senate, serving as treasurer and head of the sustainability committee.
Outside of school, she volunteers on the Girls’ Advisory Council for Hardy Girls Healthy Women, works for Stevens Farms and Greenhouses, and is an organizer for Maine Youth for Climate Justice. She was a Keller BLOOM Fellow at the Bigelow Lab, received a fellowship for certification in Advanced Wilderness First Aid, and produced a state finalist documentary for National History Day.
Holman plans to attend naval or coast guard academies to pursue studies in marine science.
