Launch of a call for tenders for the construction of the underground section of the Kanpur metro project
Kanpur, India (Urban Transport News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Ltd. invites global tenders on an international competitive basis (ICB) from eligible and experienced civilian contractors for the construction of a 4.65 km underground section (including three metro stations) of the Kanpur Rail Metro Project .

Design and construction of TBM tunnel, cut and covered tunnel, underground ramp from central end of Kanpur from Nayaganj station to elevated ramp after Transport Nagar and three underground metro stations (namely Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar), including architectural finishes, E and M, TVS, ECS, etc. on Corridor 1 of the Kanpur subway rail project in India.

According to the tender notice, the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide financial assistance for this package of contracts. As of July 2020, the EIB had approved 5,661 crore rupees (650 million euros) for the execution of the civil works and the system contract for the Kanpur metro rail project.
About the project
The first phase of the Kanpur Metro Rail project includes a 23.785 km metro corridor between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta with a total of 22 metro stations. The 15,164 km section will be elevated and the remaining 8.621 km section will be underground. Civilian contract with a combined value of Rs 769.23 crore and USD 36.74 million for construction of approximately 3.619 km underground section (Permat Ramp – Nayagan) awarded to Gulermak – Sam India JV in January of this year.
The entire underground section of Kanpur Metro Line 1 (Permat Ramp – Tranport Nagar Ramp) is approximately 8.621 km long with 7 stations en route. Last May, Gulermak – Sam India JV working on the first underground section (Permat Ramp – Nayaganj) started to set up its casting yard and started on-site pre-construction work related to the relocation of utilities.
