Fence Installation and Construction on South Coast Rail Fall River Branch Line – Fall River Reporter
MassDOT has released an update on the South Coast Rail project.
Fencing Installation: Middleborough, Lakeville, Raynham, Taunton, Berkley, Assonet
Workplace : • Installation of fencing along the Middleborough branch line railway right-of-way at locations between Route 140 in Taunton and the new Middleborough station site (161 Main Street South, Middleborough) • Installation of fencing along the along the Fall River branch line railway right-of-way at places between Myricks Street in Taunton and Beechwood Road in Assonet
Working dates/hours: Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The MBTA contractor will begin installing fencing at locations along the Middleborough branch line and Fall River branch rail right-of-way.
Typically, fencing is placed in areas where it improves security and minimizes trespassing on the railway right-of-way. Railroad neighbors may see orange stakes marking survey boundaries and will notice crews working within the railroad right-of-way to install this fence. In some locations, limited clearing of trees and brush may be required to facilitate this work. The typical MBTA fence that will be installed is a 6 foot high chain link fence. Fencing will be installed on the MBTA property line.
Berkley: Cotley Street Rail Access
Workplace : Cotley Street in Berkley
Working dates/hours: Please note that the contractor will use Cotley Street to access the right-of-way for various work activities, this is primarily used during the day (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) but will also be used 24 hours a day during certain activities. .
Daytime work on the Middleborough branch line and New Bedford mainline
Workplace : • Site of New Middleborough Station, 161 South Main Street, Middleborough • Site of East Taunton Station, 1141 County Street, Taunton • Site of Wamsutta Stopover Facility, 217 Herman Melville Boulevard, New Bedford • Site of Church Street Station, 387 Church Street, New Bedford • New Bedford Station Site, Acushnet Avenue (at Whale’s Tooth car park), New Bedford • Right of way for Middleborough branch line and New Bedford main line
Working dates/hours: • Monday, January 17 to Sunday, January 23, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. • Monday, January 24 to Friday, January 28, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Construction is underway at stations and stopover sites and along the railway right-of-way from Middleborough to New Bedford.
Fall River branch line daytime work
Work Location: •Adams Lane, Berkley •Richmond Road to Forge Road, Assonet •Freetown Station Site, 161 South Main Street, Assonet •Collins Street, Fall River •Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility, 2680 North Main Street, Fall River •Fall River Depot Site, 825 Davol Street, Fall River • Fall River Branch Line Railroad Right-of-Way
Working dates/hours: • Monday, January 17 to Friday, January 21, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. • Monday, January 24 to Friday, January 28, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Construction is underway at stations and stopover sites and along the railroad right-of-way from Berkley to Fall River.
Note that soils excavated from the railway right-of-way during the above works are typically hauled during the day and may be transported overnight by truck to the designated project site at Fall River where the soils will be stockpiled and spread.
Workplace : Weaver’s Cove Rest Facility, 2680 North Main Street, Fall River
Working dates/hours: • Regular daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. • At night if necessary, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
