Contractors alerted to £81m Brent motorways maintenance contract opportunity

The London Borough of Brent is seeking to appoint new contractors for its motorway maintenance works contract, worth a total of £81million.

The market is divided into two lots. The two will start on April 1, 2023 for an initial seven-year deal that could be extended for a further three years in one-year increments, subject to performance.

Lot 1 of the contract is worth up to £44m and its scope includes:

  • Planned developments and planned maintenance work in zone 1 (north) of the borough
  • Reactive repairs throughout the borough
  • Emergency response service throughout the borough
  • Cyclical and reactive cleaning of gullies throughout the district
  • One-time planned developments and planned maintenance work in zone 2 (south) of the borough – without guarantee that such work will be carried out

Lot 2 of the contract is worth up to £37m and its scope includes:

  • Developments and maintenance work planned in zone 2 (south) of the borough
  • Occasional reactive repair work throughout the borough – no guarantee that such work will be carried out
  • One-off planned developments and planned maintenance work in zone 1 (north) of the borough – without guarantee that such work will be carried out

The deadline for submission of tenders is October 28 at 12 p.m.

It comes after National Highways announced a £196million package of improvements to improve roads, pavements and bridges in the Midlands region.

Well-known motorways and major A-roads including the M6, M5, M1 and A1, A5 and A43 are all included in the package, and works include road resurfacing, new road barriers and drainage improvements to prevent flooding.
