Don has had the opportunity to fulfill this role for the past 12 years, the passion to succeed for patients and their families motivates him to do all he can for the communities we serve. Don’s responsibilities at GSH include overseeing biomedical engineering, plant operations, general maintenance and all renovation/construction projects. Most importantly, he fulfills the role of “caregiver” for anyone who needs help within the facility, be it a patient, family member or co-worker. His goal at work is quite simple; “Make a Difference”, three little words that have a big impact. Whether it’s building a multimillion-dollar facility, working with problem-solving teams, or just giving instructions to someone in the lobby, it all contributes to the simple goal of “Make a Difference.” . It’s something anyone can do without too much effort and in any position.

Don had the opportunity to build the new 5-story patient tower (Gibault Memorial), as well as renovations to much of the remaining space. Having completed many other projects of various sizes throughout his career, working with department heads and staff to ensure we meet their needs. A very exciting ongoing project that Don is working on is a ‘pre-engineered’ concept for the replacement of the HVAC in our main OR, the aim is to minimize downtime and maximize revenue generation during installation. Finally, building a strong and cohesive team of engineers has also been a priority to ensure that we provide the best possible service to our patients and colleagues. For the past 5 years, Don has served on the Indiana Society of Healthcare Engineers (ISHE) Board of Directors in various capacities, currently serving as Past President and ASHE Liaison. In 2020 received the “Engineer of the Year” award from ISHE, and in 2022 was honored to receive the “MAX” award. This award recognizes the recipient’s dedication to ISHE and healthcare engineering. Prior to assuming the position of President, he was Chairman of the Midwest Healthcare Engineering Conference Committee for 2 years.

When it comes to interests and hobbies, it can be boiled down to “everything outdoors.” Don enjoys running, golf, pickleball, hiking and hunting. For the past 6 years, Don has also refereed high school basketball to stay connected to the game he has truly enjoyed playing for many years. He also enjoys working with wood, tinkering around in his workshop and driving the 1960 Ford Thunderbird he restored with his son.
