Ahlstrom-Munksjö changes name to Ahlstrom

Following the ownership reorganization of its Decor business, which is expected to be completed by the end of Q3 2022, Ahlstrom-Munksjö plans to change its trading name to Ahlstrom.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö is uniquely positioned to capture additional value in growing markets for specialty fiber materials and make a greater contribution to society through its strong market position. Megatrends such as higher air and water quality requirements, restrictions on the use of harmful chemicals, increased health awareness as well as the substitution of plastic for paper and trade electronics in packaging will create growth opportunities.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö is committed to the 1.5°C Science Based Target initiative by 2030 and to net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

From July 1, 2022, the Group will serve five growing and distinctive end markets, also forming the basis of five divisions, enabling significant organic and inorganic growth. The five end markets and corresponding divisions are:

Daniele Borlatto, with a background in filtration and performance solutions, will continue as Senior Vice President of the Filtration Division.

Food and consumer packaging – Solutions to improve food safety, product preservation and bacteria prevention, helping to extend the life of products and protect human health. Market growth is driven by a shift towards home delivery and e-commerce, and the sustainable substitution of plastic with paper. Mark Ushpol, with experience in the paper and packaging industry, will continue as executive vice president of the Food & Consumer Packaging division.

Health care – Technologies serving essential societal uses in medical, laboratory and life science environments, including diagnostics, bioprocessing and medical performance barriers. Market growth is supported by increased health awareness, home testing, and development and use of advanced bioprocesses. Markus Westerkamp will serve as interim executive vice president of the Healthcare division until a new appointment is made.

Construction materials – Applications of highly technical construction materials for each side of the building. Market growth is driven by urbanization and rising demand for sustainable building materials. Daniele Borlatto will serve as interim executive vice president of the Building Materials Division until a new appointment is made.

Technical material – Highly technical applications including protective materials such as insulation, precision coating, tape and others. Market growth is driven by increasing performance characteristics in demanding technical applications, emission reductions and substitution of plastics over paper. Sophie Haan, with a background in process and specialty industries, will lead the engineered materials division as executive vice president beginning in September 2022, when current vice president Dan Adrianzon retires.

Additionally, a new COO function is created to support the decentralized operating model and drive plant performance improvement. Markus Westerkamp, with a background as Executive Vice President of Advanced Solutions at Ahlstrom-Munksjö, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer, effective July 1, 2022.
